{"id":93,"date":"2006-09-26T13:18:42","date_gmt":"2006-09-26T18:18:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karinhowe.com\/lighthouses\/2006\/09\/26\/saugerties-garlic-lighthouses-awesome\/"},"modified":"2006-09-26T13:22:41","modified_gmt":"2006-09-26T18:22:41","slug":"saugerties-garlic-lighthouses-awesome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/karinhowe.com\/lighthouses\/2006\/09\/26\/saugerties-garlic-lighthouses-awesome\/","title":{"rendered":"Saugerties Lighthouse: Garlic + Lighthouse = Awesome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has become an annual tradition for the combined forces of the Bouwerie Boys of New York City and the Binghamton Morris Men to descend on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saugertieslighthouse.com\/\">Saugerties Lighthouse<\/a> for a feast and overnight stay for all who will, following a long day of dancing at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hvgf.org\/\">Garlic Festival<\/a>. A long day spent <strong>eating garlic<\/strong>, may I add. Yes, picture it&#8230;.. over a dozen sweaty men, <em>reeking<\/em> of garlic, camped on every available spot of floor in the lighthouse &#8211; sounds like heaven, does it not? \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p>For those interested in visiting the lighthouse under somewhat less um, cozy circumstances, the lighthouse normally <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saugertieslighthouse.com\/bb\/index.shtml\">accomodates<\/a> two couples in private bedrooms, with shared bath. A magnificent breakfast is included. I&#8217;ve stayed there under those conditions as well, and it&#8217;s lovely, if somewhat lacking in the sweaty morris men factor. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>The lighthouse is also available for day use &#8211; you can hike out to the lighthouse and view it from the outside at any time &#8211; dawn until dusk. Tours of the lighthouse and museum are available from Memorial Day to Labor Day on weekends and holidays from 2:00 &#8211; 5:00 PM. Other times by appointment or random chance. Suggested donation of $3.00 per adult and $1.00 per child, proceeds of which go toward the maintanance of the lighthouse. Picnic facilities are available, so bring a picnic lunch and enjoy some time on the river!<\/p>\n<p>Warning: The lighthouse is accessible via a half-mile trail, which is subject to flooding at high tide.
